What is this “BYOP” Day You Speak of? Let Us Explain.

OSG Paintball • May 27, 2016

The last Sunday of every month is our annual BYOP (bring your own paintballs) day. We have been running this game monthly for years. Like our previous post about scenario paintball ,  we feel our BYOP events need a little more of an explanation due to the influx of new season pass holders and players at our field this season. What are these mythical BYOP days you ask? Let me explain…

BYOP is more than just a day you can bring your own paintballs. BYOP is a day where you play ridiculous amounts of paintball in a more standard game format. Most players are relatively familiar with the big game or scenario game format where there are two huge teams, various objects, and you play longer games or even nonstop all day.  Our BYOP days let you play nonstop all day but on smaller fields.  We break into 3-4 separate rotating games depending on how busy we are.  We have 3 groups of referees running on Urban Town, Pirate Cove, Western Town, and The LZ at the same time. Then we have a 4th group of referees running large woodsball games. These could be single or multi field objective based games depending on the size of the group. This allows us to rotate through our most popular fields all while running a more traditional big game style format in the woods.

How does this allow you to play all day? Simple. Say you are playing in Western Town. You get shot out. As you are walking off the field you see a game heading out to Halo Village. You can just hop in with them and go play Halo Village. You can keep doing this throughout the day if you are so inclined. We make sure there are always games running so downtime between them is nearly non existent unless we decide to run some of our signature big games. These games are where this day becomes especially unique and something that all New England paintball players should experience at least once. What are these games?

  • Cowboys vs. Indians – The Indians attack Western Town. The Sheriffs defend the Church. Defend it to hold the town and keep your respawn point alive!
  • Boston Tea Party – Fight your way to the Ship. Throw the tea overboard.
  • Zombie Apocalypse – Can you be the last survivor?
  • Urban Respawn – Madness. Absolute.Madness

Does this sound complicated? It’s because it kind of is! Do we have this format on lock down? Absolutely.  On top of all of this, we have a photographer roaming around documenting the day and we shoot a short video. All for only $30. If you are thinking about spending your Sunday on the paintball field, making the trek North will be one of the best things you can do this month! The final weekend of the 2024 season has come and gone. Normally, we shut the field down and go into hibernation until March. This year, things will be a bit different. We are taking a few weeks off to spend the holidays with family and friends, and will reopen on January 4th, 2025.

The final scenario of the year is this weekend, and it's BYOP! For one day only, we are bringing the 80's back. Collect Mario coins and VHS tapes, go Back to the Future, experience a Nightmare on Elm Street, or spend a Weekend at Bernies. Nostalgia is the name of the game, and we are here to deliver the good times.
